02A - Irazu Volcano

The volcano tour costs $15 USD. You must reserve your right to enter the Sinac site before you can enter the site.

To get to the park, I advise you to take the bus from downtown Cartago . It will cost you 1525 CRC, or about $2.50 USD. You will have to pay both ways. The departure is at 9:00 a.m. from Cartago and the return is at 12:30 p.m. from the Volcano. This will give you plenty of time to visit and take pictures.

Please bring warm clothes.

The 34 km distance from Cartago to the volcano takes about 1 hour by bus. Do not try to go there by bike!!! If you decide to take a taxi, you will have to pay $50 USD for the outward and return journey.

Irazú is an active stratovolcano located in the Cordillera Central, Costa Rica. It culminates at 3,432 meters above sea level. The crater hosts an acidic lake, which slowly evaporated in April 2013 following renewed volcanic activity.
