Church of Saint-Édouard - Bécancour - Historic Monument
Becancour
This church was built between 1842 and 1849 according to the plans of Thomas Baillairgé, an architect from Quebec. The interior decoration and the bell tower were entrusted in 1857 to Damase Saint-Arnaud, a master carpenter from Bécancour. While in 1868 Raphaël Giroux was responsible for renewing the religious furnishings. The plans for the current façade, which dates from 1907, were drawn up by the architect Louis Caron, from Nicolet.
The reliefs decorating the choir of this neoclassical church are unique and attributed to a young parishioner, Adolphe Rho.
The church of Saint Edward was classified as a historic monument on January 10, 1962 by the historic monuments commission.
