Jour 21: Varadero 2.0

Day 21: Varadero 2.0

I can finally sleep in; I get up at 7:00. Varadero has a 20km beach, and the luxury hotels are located at the far end of the island. Varadero is a place where everything is very expensive. I miss the Cuban atmosphere and 25-cent sandwiches. That's why I'm going to explore the small town west of Varadero: Santa Martha . After a 2km walk, I finally find the real Cuba. I eat an excellent pork sandwich and a sugarcane juice (Guarapo). I feel better.

After a good meal, I try to find Grisel, someone who invited me for ice cream at his house two years ago. I do some research and find his house, but all the windows are closed. I'll come back another time! I return to my room, which is very cute and very secretive. See the next video:

My host prepares meals for me and I will give him money at the end of the week.

A little while later, I finally figured out how the locals in Varadero could eat so cheaply! You just have to observe! I saw a bus driver stop his vehicle near the souvenir shops and I followed him to see what he was doing. I discovered a nice gentleman and his wife clandestinely selling sandwiches and juices at very low prices. Hooray! I'm so happy! I had lunch for 50 cents!

I'm finally enjoying the beach and the turquoise water.

I'm going to rest for another two days; the days are long at the beach! In the evening, I put on my bike and set off again to find Grisel, and I finally find her. We chat for at least an hour, and I tell her about my trip. She's very receptive and kind. She shows me her large book in which I wrote my name and address two years ago. She invited me to come back tomorrow to meet her husband, who is a doctor.

Here is the photo with her husband Angel, who is a doctor in Havana.

They are making major improvements to this house, but they also own a residence in Havana.

On the way back, I witnessed the most beautiful sunset in a very long time. It was my first sunset in Varadero, because the last times I came in winter and the sun doesn't disappear with a characteristic sound when it touches the water like: tiiiiishhh.

A sunset that will remain etched in my memory for a long time. A complete sunset, not a cloud in sight. A ball of fire that descended and descended slowly. A very rare spectacle that ended with a festive arrival of colors. A sunset so beautiful that no photo could do it justice...sorry! And that's it! This is the end of my blog for a while; the rest of my adventure is likely to be very ordinary: beach, beach, and back to Sherbrooke. I want to thank everyone who followed my escapades!

It was a very enriching and enjoyable trip to describe.

See you soon for more adventures...
